Recording solopiece by Sunleif Rasmussen____________________________
The recording of Suite for Guitar and Effectprocessor by Farose composer Sunleif Rasmussen are finished.
The sessions have been in the village of Velbastađ, in beautiful settings where engineer Jónas Bloch Danielsen has his studio. The composer is producing himself and the release will be later this year.

Performing at New Music Indaba in South Africa___
In september 2008 Ólavur Jakobsen participated in the New Music Indaba in South Africa.
Giving a historic solo guitar recital at University of South Africa, Tshwane (Pretoria) with exclusively Faroese music on the programme.
Conducting a masterclass with guitar students at the University of Pretoria and performing together with Helen Vosloo, principal flutist of The Johannesburg Symphony Orchestra at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.

Concerts with Faroese singer Petur Hentze Niclasen. The programme was a mixture of wellknown voice/guitar works by Dowland and Britten. Settings for voice and tenor by Ólavur Jakobsen by songs by Regin Dahl and Hans Jacob Hřjgaard featured as did settings of Donizetti and Verdi.
A new composition by Faroese composer Bjarni Restorff was presented as well.

Ólavur Jakobsen featured solo in Sunleif Rasmussen's Suite for Guitar and Processor, Fernando Sor's Variations opus 9, Kristian Blak's Dialogue for clarinet and guitar as well as in the world premiére of Quartetto Disparato by Austrian composer Ferdinand Weiss.

DR. FREDERIC BALAZS - composer, conductor and true friend _________
Honouring the guest Dr. Frederic Balazs and celebrating the friendship, a small recital was held in the Arts and Maritime Museum in the village of Leirvík on the 17th of September.

Budapest born violinist, conductor, composer and former music director of Tuscon Symphony Orchestra visited friends in the Faroe Islands.
Monika Stauss Joensen has performed Dr. Balazs music both in the Faroes and abroad and a close friendship has evolved over the years.
Dr. Frederic Balacz and his organization Music and Arts for the Youths invited Monika Stauss Joensen and Ólavur Jakobsen to perform in California in 2005.
Now Dr. Frederic Balazs visited friends in the Faroe Islands and a capacity crowd celebrated him and his friendship enjoying the music played in his honour.
Monika and Ólavur performed Czardas, Banjo and Fiddle, Tartini and Tango en Skai by French composer/guitarist Roland Dyens.

KODA is the copyright organisation for composers while Gramex is handling the rights of the performers. Workshops will be in the afternoon about music on the web.
Concert featuring Aldubáran, Hanus G. Johansen, Danish folk-singer Sebastian, Faroese guitarist Benjamin Petersen and the Faroses gospel choir United Voices.
As a special treat, Aldubáran was invited to join in with Danish folk-singer Sebastian.

The Faroes to govern their own ecclesiastical affairs
In conjunction with this historic event a celebration was held in the Nordic House on Saint Olav's Day where members of Ensemble Aldubáran performed.
Andrea Heindriksdóttir on flute and Ólavur Jakobsen on guitar, performed settings by Kári Bćk and Ólavur Jakobsen of Faroese music commissioned for this occasion.

Celebrating Kristian Blak's 60th anniversery performing with violonist Angelika Nielsen and bassist Mikael Blak. First performance of chamber work for violin, bass and guitar scheduled to be premičred at concert in the remote village of Gjógv.
