Bio
Ólavur Jakobsen was born 1964 in Tórshavn in The Faroe Islands. His family consists of artists and musicians.
He was largely self-thaught as a classical guitarist before he commenced
his studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen in Denmark
with guitarist Ingolf Olsen and received his diploma exam in 1995.
Further studies in Paris with French guitarist Roland Dyens.
Has participated in masterclasses with e.g. Sir Julian Bream, David Russell and Goran Sollscher.
Worked for some years as a freelance musician in Copenhagen and was member
of the Copenhagen based Corona Guitar Quartet, touring extensively as chamber
musician and soloist.
As a soloist he has toured extensively in Europe and the USA and South Africa.
Has premièred a vast number of compositions by Danish and Faroese
and leading international composers e.g. Per Nørgård, Gavin
Bryars, Thorkell Sigurbjørnsson, Hsueh-Yung Shen, Axel Borup-Jørgensen,
Pierre Dørge, Sunleif Rasmussen, Kári Bæk, Tróndur
Bogason, Edvard N. Debess and Kristian Blak.
Worked as a sessions musician with a number of popular artists as well as
Icelandic Ensemble CAPUT and Danish Orchestra COLLEGIUM MUSICUM as well as
arranging and producing.
He is co-founder of the Faroese chamber ensemble Aldubáran.
Lives in The Faroe Islands and divides his time to performing, touring and
promoting Faroese music and being active in music life in his country teaching
and producing.

In the 90s you made many stage and screen appearances, including "The
Flippy Brothers", "The House that Fell Over", "I Can't For The Life Of Me",
